《＜政治经济学批判＞导言》马克思阐述政治经济学研究对象和方法的重要文章，是计划写作的一部经济学著作的"总导言"的未完成的草稿。写于1857年 8月底至 9月中，马克思生前未发表。1902年在马克思的文稿中发现，次年第一次发表于柏林《新时代》杂志。中译文曾单独收入人民出版社1962年出版的《马克思恩格斯全集》第12卷，后又作为《政治经济学批判》全书的部分收入人民出版社1979年出版的《马克思恩格斯全集》第46卷上册。《导言》论述了经济学的研究对象。肯定物质生产是社会发展的基础，强调物质生产的社会性和历史阶段性，批判资产阶级经济学把单个的孤立个人作为出发点以及抽象地谈论"一般生产"的观点；精辟地分析了生产、分配、交换和消费的辩证关系，在肯定生产起决定作用的前提下，充分估计了其他三个环节的相互影响及其对生产的反作用。《导言》还集中论述了经济学的研究方法，强调思维从抽象上升到具体的方法是科学研究的正确方法。指出思维的具体性是许多规定的综合,是多样性的统一,因而是结果而不是起点；同时指出这种方法只是思维用来掌握具体并把它当作一个精神上的具体再现出来的方式，而不是具体本身的产生过程，并批判了G.W.F.黑格尔的唯心主义观点。《导言》还论述了逻辑的东西和历史的东西的关系问题，强调经济范畴排列的次序要由它们在现代资产阶级社会中的相互关系来决定，不能按照它们在历史上起决定作用的先后次序来安排。《导言》具有重要的哲学意义。它不仅把历史唯物主义作为研究经济学的理论和方法，具体阐述了历史唯物主义的根本原则，而且提出了一些新的论点，如关于物质生产的发展同艺术生产的不平衡关系、人体解剖对于猴体解剖是一把钥匙，等等。
