赭山赭山，位于芜湖市中心，土石殷红，故名，赭山由大小两个山头构成，面积47.87公顷，周长4.5公里。清朝胡应翰在《一览亭记》中记述“邑北诸山.......则莫如赭阜为雄。山迤北益高，陡其癫则大江在襟带，而遥睇诸山，皆罗列如儿孙。”由于山势较高，风景优美，是登高远眺，俯视江城的境地。宋代以后，赭麓寺庙庵堂林立，酒馆菜社群建，博得历代游人香客的喜爱。“赭塔晴岚”为芜湖八景之首。然而，赭山历来为无主荒山，每遇战乱灾荒，赭山风景屡遭破坏。2000年公园被评为国家aa级旅游景区，2002年动物园扩建改造。公园东西主干道重新修造，更换路灯照明设施，新建园内5个大型休闲和健身广场，修缮杜鹃园及戴安澜烈士陵园，使之面貌焕然一新。同时更新铺设东大门至动物园道路及景观。改造西大门。新增摩天巨轮，海盗船等游乐设施。目前公园的景区有：凝芳园，海棠园，杜鹃园，桂花山，梅花山，樱花山。共有植物种类220种，较名贵的有：银杏，香樟，檀树，枫树等近10万棵。草坪41000平方米。风景林10400平方米，各具特色争芳斗艳。园林美景有：翠明园，舒天阁，中山纪念堂，燎望塔，聚心亭，“江城入画”坊，千禧亭，凝芳园，月季园。人文景点：中山堂，刘希平先生墓，戴安澜烈士墓毛泽东纪念像。游乐景点：动物园，儿童乐园，少儿欢乐城，赛车场。
