乡村建设运动20世纪20～30年代由一批知识分子倡导并参加的以建设和复兴中国农村和解决中国农民问题为主旨的社会改良运动。参加运动的先后有 600多个团体。主要有：山东乡村建设研究院、中华职业教育社、河南镇平等 3县民团组织、江宁实验县、兰溪实验站、定县平民教育实验区、江苏省立教育学院、山东省立民众教育实验区、广西经济委员会农村建设实验区等。其中影响较大的有：①晏阳初领导的定县平民教育实验区。他认为，中国农村的根本问题是愚、贫、弱、私四大病，救治的办法是以学校、社会、家庭3种方式,通过生计、文艺、卫生和公民"四大教育"，实现政治、教育、经济、自卫、卫生和礼俗"六大建设"，培养平民的生产力、知识力、强健力、团结力。②梁漱溟领导的山东乡村建设研究院。梁漱溟主张，中国建设必须走乡村建设之路，必须走振兴农业以引发工业之路。他认为，中国要建立一个新的礼俗社会，就要从文化教育入手,乡办农校,政教合一。③江苏省立教育学院实施的项目有：兴办民众教育，培养江苏61县的教育服务人才，发展农村合作组织等。参加乡村建设运动的有不少是社会学方面的教授与学生,他们为乡村建设人员讲授农村社会学,开展农村社会调查，在一定程度上推动了农村社会学在中国的发展。一些知识分子通过乡村建设运动的实践，逐渐转变为马克思主义者。乡村建设运动在改进农业生产技术，提高人民的教育文化水平等方面也取得了一定的成效。中国社会学界对乡村建设运动的评价各异。有的认为，搞乡村建设运动解决不了中国农民的问题。有的学者批评乡村建设运动的实际工作寥寥无几。梁漱溟认为，乡村建设中有两大难处：一是高谈社会改造，实则依附政府；二是号称乡村运动，而乡村实际并不动。
