课程目标

Miami Beach offer a unique opportunity for this research based design studio to generate new urban ideas and redefining resiliency. There has been much discourse across a broad spectrum of stakeholders addressing the significance of climate change and the associated risks to dense population centers, but what if we embrace the coming change and think of new types of water living that could be created in the aftermath?

How can we live with the sea? That"s the question we should all be asking with Miami Beach set to be 94.1 percent under water by 2100, the highest of all American cities. Rather than countering sea levels, or attempting to build higher than the water, what if we instead change our lives and adapt to rising sea caused by climate change and think of new possible futures of water living urbanism?

"It is our first project in Miami, in South Miami Beach on the Lagoon, and we had of course questions about the level of water and about flooding,The city decided to place buildings six or seven feet above the actual ground and we were the first building to follow this new policy," he said. "But we took the decision to add six feet more. So we also put the car park above the level of the ground. So if there is a flood, like you have once in a century, the water will arrive in the car park."

The studio encourages a collaborative research design approach meant to create an ecosystem where materials and ideas can be shared to create new and interesting experimental design. Students will select from four topics that focus on the sea, and through their programming research start to infuse the Miami city with water living to create an experimental condition that engages both land and water.

*site is selected by student though development of their research and narrative.*选址是基于学生通过研究和叙述的发展来选择的。Exercise//Research Project: Constructing Reality (3 Weeks)Students will split into groups of three or four and select one of the topics for investigation. Students will be asked to work together to creategeneral shared researchfor the case study such as, history, design process, and collecting the building drawings. Each member of the group would then be asked to morespecific researchthrough one particular role and identifying the potential architecture tools that could be created and brought into the discipline from that role.

Pushing their research to the extreme, students will select one of the projects for design to test their urban vision. Students using a strategical approach towards program, or site, a new prototype of urbanism is created. The final product allows for two representation options——1. one large axon drawing2. a set of plans, sections, and collages.
