A young girl in the UK isn’t letting her disability stop her from achieving her dreams. First it was London, then New York, and now Daisy-May Demetre has been invited to model at the top of the Eiffel Tower during Paris Fashion Week on September 27.But what makes Daisy-May so special that she’s taken the fashion world by storm in just over one year? Well, for a start she’s only nine years old. She’s also a double amputee (被截肢者).Demetre was born in Birmingham, England with a rare condition that required both of her legs to be amputated. When she was 18 months old, Daisy-May’s parents Alex and Claire Demetre chose to have both of the young girl’s legs amputated — the right above the knee and the left below the knee — in the hope of giving her a better quality of life with prosthetics (修复术).“We had the choice for her to live like that or to go for the operation,” Alex, Daisy-May’s father, said. “We didn’t know at the time that Daisy-May would be as good as she is now.”Last year, she made headlines as she walked a show for Lulu et Gigi Couture during London Kids’ Fashion Week. this year, she was chosen to represent (代表) the brand once more during the New York Fashion Week in September.Modeling doesn’t define Daisy-May. Rather, it’s a small part of who she is.“It is the way she goes about life with a smile on her face. Whether it’s about dancing, singing — she is a very special little girl,” Alex said.
