什么是装备制造业装备制造业是为国民经济各部门简单再生产和扩大再生产提供技術装备的各制造工业的总称，其产品范围包括机械工业(含航空、航天、船舶和兵器等制造行业)和电子工业中的投资类产品。按照装备功能和重要性，装备制造业主要包括以下三方面 一是重大的先进的基础机械，即制造装备的装备——工作“母机”，主要包括数控机床（NC）、柔性制造单元（FMC）、柔性制造系统（FMS）、计算机集成制造系统（DIMS）、工业机器人、大规模集成电路及电子制造设备等等。二是重要的机械、电子基础件，主要是先进的液压、气动、轴承、密封、模具、刀具、低压电器、微电子和电力电子器件、仪器仪表及自动化控制系统等等。三是国民经济各部门（包括农业、能源、交通、原材料、医疗卫生、环保等）科学技术、军工生产所需的重大成套技术装备，如矿产资源的井采及露天开采设备，大型火电、水电、核电成套设备，超高压交、直流输变电成套设备，石油化工、煤化工、盐化工成套设备，黑色和有色金属冶炼轧制成套设备，民用飞机、高速铁路、地铁及城市轨道车、汽车、船舶等先进交通运输设备，污水、垃圾及大型烟道气净化处理等大型环保设备，大江大河治理、隧道挖掘和盾构、大型输水输气等大型工程所需重要成套设备，先进适用的农业机械及现代设施农业成套设备，大型科学仪器和医疗设备，先进大型的军事装备，通信、航管及航空航天装备，先进的印刷设备等等。 装备制造业主要具有以下特点： (1)装备制造业范围广，门类多，技术含量高，与其他的产业关联度大，带动性强。 装备制造业不仅涉及到机械加工业，还涉及到材料、电子和机械零配件加工等配套行业。装备制造业的发展将带动一大批相关产业的发展。装备制造业可以为各行业提供现代化设备，从农业生产的机械化到国防使用的武器装备，各行各业都离不开装备制造业； (2)装备制造业是高就业、节省能(资)源、高附加值产业 装备制造业虽为技术密集和资本密集工业，但它不同于流程工业，它是组装式工业，同时具有劳动密集性质，有较大的就业容量，可以提供大量就业机会。装备制造业不仅直接吸纳大量劳动力，同时装备制造业前后关联度较高，对装备制造业投入也可带动其它工业的发展，增加相关工业的就业人数。解决就业问题，缓解就业压力，对保持社会安定团结具有至关重要的作用。
