在云南省腾冲县的龙川江畔,矗立着一大片火山爆发时喷出的未露于地表的岩浆冷凝后形成的柱状结晶,地质学上称为“柱状节理”,当地人则形象地叫它“ 神柱”。柱状节理是怎么形成的呢?火山岩浆喷发时的温度为1200摄氏度,当岩浆冷却至八百至九百摄氏度时岩浆结晶形成柱状节理。由于岩浆含有六方柱体的斜长石、橄榄石、角闪石、辉石等矿物质,所以冷却后形成六方柱体。地质专家经过调查认为,腾冲的“神柱”是我国迄今为止发现的一片规模最大、保存完整、年代最短的柱状节理。
