学习兴趣指一个人对学习的一种积极的认识倾向与情绪状态。学生对某一学科有兴趣，就会持续地专心致志地钻研它，从而提高学习效果。从对学习的促进来说，兴趣可以成为学习的原因；从由于学习产生新的兴趣和提高原有兴趣来看，兴趣又是在学习活动中产生的，可以作为学习的结果。所以，学习兴趣既是学习的原因，又是学习的结果。学习兴趣大体上可以分为直接学习兴趣与间接学习兴趣两种。前者是由所学材料或学习活动──学习过程本身直接引起的。后者是由学习活动的结果引起的。间接学习兴趣具有明显的自觉性。当一个人意识到学习的社会意义或与自己的关系时，学习兴趣就随之产生。例如，为了集体的利益，意识到学习的目的或任务，因而支配自己去坚持学习。或者为了得到父母、教师的赞赏，同学、朋友的尊重，在考试中得到好分数，在竞赛中取得胜利等等，也能引起学生对学习的兴趣。直接学习兴趣与间接学习兴趣常常是融合在一起的，即既有直接学习兴趣的成分，又有间接学习兴趣的成分，其中，或以直接学习兴趣为主，或以间接学习兴趣为主，或两者难分主次。开始时对学习的间接兴趣，在学习过程中很有可能逐渐转化为直接兴趣。而对学习的直接兴趣，若无特殊情况，大多能长期持续下去，并且愈来愈浓厚。实践表明对学习的直接兴趣是提高学习质量最有利的因素。学习兴趣的产生与教学有密切的关系。学生学习兴趣的培养,主要在教师使学习活动有兴趣,其方法为：①加强教材的趣味性、系统性、科学性。有趣的、能逐步掌握的、可获得科学知识的教材，肯定能引起学生的学习兴趣。②提高教学水平。太易太难的教材与提问都不足以激起学生的兴趣。使学生不断获得新知识，并能将其成功地运用于实际，及时得到强化。这样的教学过程，学生就会觉得饶有兴味，学习兴趣就会日益浓厚。③了解学生已有的兴趣。新的学习兴趣很少凭空出现，它多半是已有兴趣的衍生物，因此，搞清学生已有的学习兴趣，就有了扩展和提高其学习兴趣的基础。④帮助学生认识学习某一学科（或材料）的社会意义及其与个人的关系。"奖优"和"竞赛"虽也能激发学生的学习兴趣，但这些方法如运用不当，则流弊较多，因此要慎重对待。
