表面增强喇曼散射英文简称SERS。1974年M.弗莱希曼等人测量到了电化学池中经过几次氧化还原反应的银表面吸附吡啶分子的喇曼散射线。1976年R.P.范德伊内等证实了上述实验并推算出银表面吸附的吡啶的喇曼散射截面比纯吡啶的大106倍。后来的研究表明，Ag、Cu、Au、Pt等金属表面吸附不同的分子或离子如吡啶、氰离子、苯、Co、N、......（目前已有一二百种有机、无机分子和离子）时均发现喇曼散射截面有不同程度增强。增强效应与表面亚微观的粗糙程度有关。电子显微镜分析表明对于Ag，100┱左右的不平整对增强效应最显著。除了分子振动谱增强之外还发现一个宽频带的连续背景。增强效应与激发激光的频率的关系尚无一致结果。由于该效应发生于金属-吸附分子体系,而许多重要过程如多相催化、电化学及单层分子检测、表面研究等均与此有关。此外，根据理论估计，非线性光学过程也应有增强，这已被沈元让等人的实验证实。目前提出的理论模型很多。如镜像场模型认为，光场在吸附分子上感应出电偶极子，在一定条件下使偶极辐射强度大大增强。调制反射理论认为，吸附分子的振动通过吸附分子和金属的相互作用，改变了金属表面电子的密度，从而调制了金属的反射率，造成"有频移的反射"，因而表现出散射强度大大增强。此外，还有共振增强模型、电子-空穴对激发模型、 受激散射模型等。目前所有这些模型均不能完美地解释全部实验。因此较多人认为表面增强效应是一个复杂过程，增强效应可能是几种因素的综合。目前理论和实验都还在迅速发展着。除电化学池系统外，还在超高真空金属表面，胶体中金属颗粒表面以及用机械抛光造成粗糙的金属表面等实验中观察到增强喇曼散射效应，并指出除了物理的增强因素之外，还可能有化学增强的贡献。见光的散射。参考书目R.K.Chang and T.E.
