光导纤维光导纤维opticalwaveguidefibre光以波导方式在其中传输的光学介质材料。简称光纤。光导纤维由纤芯和包层两部分组成。有两种纤维结构可以形成波导传输，即阶跃(折射率)型和梯度(折射率)型。阶跃型光导纤维的纤芯与包层间折射率是阶梯状的，纤芯的折射率大于包层，入射光线在纤芯和包层间界面产生全反射，因此呈锯齿状曲折前进。梯度型光导纤维的纤芯折射率从中心轴线开始向着径向逐渐减小。因此，入射光线进入光纤后，偏离中心轴线的光将呈曲线路径向中心集束传输，光束在梯度型光导纤维中传播时，形成周期性的会聚和发散，呈波浪式曲线前进。故梯度型光导纤维又称聚焦型光导纤维。光导纤维组成的色彩变幻的孔雀开屏光导纤维按化学组成分为熔石英玻璃光纤、氟化物玻璃光纤和硫化物玻璃光纤等。按应用又分为通信光纤，主要用于光纤通信代替同轴电缆和微波通信；传感光纤，用于制造光纤传感器，具有灵敏度高、抗干扰性强等优点；传光光纤，用于传输激光，已在激光加工、激光医疗等设备上发挥了作用；激光光纤，可用作高增益的光纤激光器和放大器。光学上把具有一定频率、一定的偏振状态和传播方向的光波称做光波的一种模式。只允许传输一个模式光波的光导纤维称为单模光导纤维；允许同时传输多个模式光波的光导纤维称为多模光导纤维。
