园林苗木培育繁殖并培育树苗使之符合园林绿化要求的技术措施。一般由专业性园林苗圃进行。园林苗木要求出圃定植时即达到较大的规格、具备良好的树形骨架和发达的根系，以便栽植于园林绿地后迅即成活，加速成长，发挥效益。因此，培育的方法和技艺较为细致、多样。事先须根据园林绿化规划，确定苗木产量指标，包括逐年育苗的树种、数量及各树种间的比例、移植量、成活和成品率、逐年出圃的种类、数量等。苗木繁殖可采用有性繁殖或营养繁殖方法（见植物繁殖）。为了养成树形完整、根系发达、合乎规格的苗木,一般根据不同树种的生长特性，在出圃前进行1～3次移植。移植时可切断苗木主根,促使侧根发育、根系集中，以便提高出圃后的栽植成活率。同时安排合理的行株距，加大苗木生长空间，以便提供充足的光照、通风及肥水条件，促进苗木生长。苗木的抚育管理主要包括灌水、施肥、中耕除草、防治病虫害、整形修剪、去蘖及防寒、防霜、掘苗和假植等。苗木出圃时须加强检验、检疫工作、防止劣苗或不合园林绿化要求的苗木出圃和传播病虫害。
