黄磷P4又称白磷,磷的同素异形体之一,由磷矿化学加工而得。黄白色蜡状,具有光泽的固体,有立方体和六方体两种晶体结构,室温下为立方体。在常压、熔融状态下加热到200℃开始转变为赤磷(又称红磷)。黄磷的化学性质活泼,除碳、硼、硅外,几乎所有元素均能与它直接化合生成相应的磷化物。难溶于水,易溶于二硫化碳及磷的卤化物中。在暗处能发磷光并冒白烟,在空气中35℃即可自燃。贮运时应存放于水中。黄磷有剧毒,其蒸气在空气中最大允许浓度为0.00003mg/1。黄磷生产有电炉法和高炉法两种。电炉法产品质量好、成本低。高炉法已很少采用。电炉法(见图)是将磷矿石、焦炭、硅石按一定配比混合,送入密闭三相电炉中,在1400~1500℃高温下进行熔融还原: 4Ca5F(PO4)3+21SiO2+30C ─→3P4+30CO+SiF4+20CaSiO3反应生成的黄磷蒸气和一氧化碳、四氟化硅一起逸出,经水喷淋冷却,黄磷凝聚成液滴与机械杂质一起进入塔底的集磷槽内即得粗磷。将粗磷在精制锅中用蒸汽加热,搅拌使之熔化,静置澄清后进入黄磷池冷却即得产品。未冷凝的尾气中含80%~90%一氧化碳,可作燃料用,也可用来生产甲酸、草酸。从集磷槽内的磷泥中可回收磷。此外,电炉排出的炉渣和磷铁等都可加以利用。黄磷是制造赤磷、磷酸、各种卤化磷(如三氯化磷、五氯化磷)、硫化磷(如五硫化二磷)、磷酸盐、磷酸酯以及有机磷农药的原料,用于生产信号弹、燃烧弹及烟幕弹,还可用于制造磷铁合金及气体分析等方面。
