中国蒙古史学会中国全国性的蒙古史工作者学术团体。学会的基本任务是团结全国各族专业的和业余的蒙古史研究工作者，在马克思列宁主义、毛泽东思想的指导下，发扬实事求是的优良学风，提高蒙古史研究的科学水平，促进中国蒙古史研究事业的发展，为实现新的历史时期总任务服务。中华人民共和国成立以来，蒙古史学科在中国有了很大的发展，成长起一支包括蒙、汉等各族学者的研究队伍，发表了多篇论文和一些专著。把这批力量组织起来，必将进一步推动学科的发展。1978年5月,在中国社会科学院主持召开的全国民族研究发展规划会议上，决定成立全国性的蒙古史学会。1979年8月,在内蒙古自治区首府呼和浩特市召开学会成立大会，制定和通过了学会章程。章程规定，学会贯彻百花齐放、百家争鸣方针，采取各种形式，积极开展学术活动，定期组织学术讨论和学术交流，活跃蒙古史的研究；出版有关蒙古史的书刊资料;同国外蒙古史研究机构和学者建立友好联系,开展国际交流。学会吸收团体会员和个人会员。在成立大会上选举产生了理事会，翁独健教授当选为理事长。会址设在内蒙古自治区呼和浩特市。1980年该会在内蒙古海拉尔市举行年会。1981年，年会在新疆维吾尔自治区乌鲁木齐市召开，日本、美国和德意志联邦共和国的一些学者应邀出席。1983年，在云南昆明举行了学术讨论会。出版《中国蒙古史学会论文集》2辑,收论文90余篇，涉及蒙古族族源、社会性质、人物评价等方面，反映了蒙古史研究的水平。中国蒙古史学会在推动国内蒙古史研究中发挥了积极作用。
