羰基铁铁与一氧化碳的化合物,有单核、双核以至多核等形式,还可以是一氧化碳与氢负离子、卤素离子、氧化氮等其他配体的混合配体的配位化合物,如 Fe(CO)5、Fe2(CO)9、Fe3(CO)12、H2Fe(CO)4、H2Fe2(CO)8、H2Fe3(CO)11、Fe(CO)4(NO)、Fe(CO)4Cl2 、Fe2(CO)8I2。大多数多核配合物以一个或几个一氧化碳为桥相联结,也有以卤素或其他配体为桥的,还常存在铁与铁之间的金属键,所以有时也是原子簇金属化合物。比较常见的羰基铁有以下三种:五羰基铁 化学式为Fe(CO)5。为黄色油状液体;熔点-21℃,沸点102.8℃,液体密度1.457克/厘米3(21℃);250℃分解得纯铁;不溶于水,溶于碱、浓硫酸、醇、苯和石油醚。Fe(CO)5受日光或紫外线照射时发生二聚作用,生成Fe2(CO)9和一氧化碳。五羰基铁的乙醚溶液与矿酸作用,分解成一氧化碳、氢气和二价铁。强碱的水溶液或洒精溶液可将Fe(CO)5转化成[HFe(CO)4]-阴离子。五羰基铁在丙酮溶液中可被氯化铜氧化成二价铁。六氯化钨与五羰基铁作用,生成六羰基钨。Fe(CO)5中的一氧化碳可与许多配体发生取代反应。生成混合配体配合物Fe(CO)xLy,式中L为PR3、AsR3、烯烃或硫原子等(R为烷基)。五羰基铁由细铁粉与一氧化碳在200℃左右和 50~200大气压下直接反应制得。可用于有机合成,用作抗爆剂、脱卤和羰基化试剂。九羰基二铁 化学式为Fe2(CO)9,结构式如。为黄色晶体;密度2.085克/厘米3(18℃);80℃时分解,高真空下35℃时可升华;有反磁性;不溶于水、醇、酸和脂肪烃类溶剂。九羰基二铁与许多有机溶剂反应,生成 Fe(CO)5或其取代衍生物;在液氨中与金属钠反应生成Fe(CO)娸阴离子:Fe2(CO)9+4Na─→2Na2Fe(CO)4+CO也容易发生取代反应,在液态二氧化硫中可生成Fe2(CO)8SO2, 其中SO2也是两个铁原子间的桥联配体。九羰基二铁由 Fe(CO)5的有机溶剂溶液经日光或紫外线的照射制得。 十二羰基三铁 化学式为Fe3(CO)12,结构式如左。为深绿色晶体;密度 1.996克/厘米3(18℃);140℃时分解;在真空中可缓慢升华;有反磁性,溶于有机溶剂和Fe(CO)5中;化学性质比Fe(CO)5活泼, 室温下可与甲醇反应:3Fe3(CO)12+nCH3OH─→[Fe(CH3OH)n][Fe3(CO)11]+5Fe(CO)5
